dear empowered woman,

It’s time. Women’s health needs a makeover and it starts with each one of us, claiming our bodies as our own.

MAGAMAMA is an offering of hope + empowerment, practical + embodied wisdom for women and new moms all over the world.

For many, the window into our womanhood and sexuality is birth, but Magamama is a vision that includes holistic somatic education for women at all stages of their self-discovery and healing- from menarche through menopause.

Whether you need a pick-me-up on a hard day, someone to help you put the pieces of your puzzle together, or some cold hard facts, Magamama brings together personal stories, expert interviews, and ancient healing practices to shine a light on this mysterious post-partum period.

Magamama is a community and resource hub for new moms who want natural empowering solutions to the physical pain + emotional madness that can accompany childbirth, as well as a home for progressive conversations and professional development.

In Brazil, “MAGA” means sorceress. I truly believe that as women these days, life requires us to activate our inner sorceress to balance work, relationships, family, health and our inner life without surrendering to fear and overwhelm.

Enjoy your time in my virtual home. My hope is that you get inspired + educated to take care of yourself like the powerful MAGA you are.

I am available to help you envision and implement an empowering birth scenario, to compose a post-partum sanctuary plan, to heal your birth injury or birth trauma, or to help you expand your intimacy and pleasure potential.

My whole heart goes out to you.

About Magamama

Magamama is a stand for maturation and wholeness, as well as a reclamation of our gynecological and sexual health. The next wave of feminism includes embodiment and pleasure. The sorcery required to feel whole as a woman and a mother is not easy. But the rewards are vast when we have the right information and support. No sugar-coating. Hard won insights, up-to-date research, and a holistic approach to healing. Magamama is a resource and inspiration hub for women and new moms.

Mission - The Path to Healing

Sex, birth, and trauma are tangible entry points to reclaiming your individual wholeness and to reconnecting to healthy power. You may think that being uncomfortable means that there’s something wrong with you.

In fact, with birth, sex, motherhood and trauma, the discomfort is often an invitation into authentic and empowered self-discovery and healing. While it takes courage to walk down this path, it may be the most powerful and transformative journey you’ll ever take.  Do it for yourself- for the reclamation of your soul’s purpose. Do it for our children and the planet.

About Me

I am a birth doula, Sexological Bodyworker, Somatic Experiencing practitioner, postpartum care advocate, and single mom. I am the co-founder of the STREAM School for Postpartum Care, where we train birth professionals, yoga teachers, massage therapists, somatic therapists, midwives, doulas and acupuncturists to help women prepare for and recover from birth. I wrote my first book, The Fourth Trimester: A Postpartum Guide to Healing Your Body, Balancing Your Emotions, and Restoring Your Vitality, so that new moms don’t have to go through what I went through and instead can have the most radiant and whole postpartum period possible.

Sex

If you are like most women, sex is a word that simultaneously attracts and repels you. You sense that there is so much more to discover in your body, mind, and soul through sex. You sense that you may even have special powers that lie in your sexuality. Yet, as women, the message that we receive with sex is that our sexuality exists for the pleasure and perception of others. Your body may not respond the way that your mind wants it to. You may be confused about what’s normal, carrying shame from some past unwanted or unintended experiences, or having chronic yeast infections, STDs or disrespectful relationships. Maybe you haven’t felt the same since you gave birth.

Birth

Despite what we've been told, all births aren't created equal. The dominant belief system is: "You do the best you can, you get your registry ready, you go to the childbirth education class, you hire your doula and wish for the best."

What's often overlooked is that your sexual health impacts your birth experience. Your history of abortions, miscarriages, and infertility impacts birth too. You can't divorce the system of any of its parts.

If you choose a care provider who is aligned with your belief systems, and if you gain a certain amount of embodiment and awareness, a birth rehearsal is an opportunity to learn about your body, and explore how it might react to birth.

Motherhood

After giving birth, the message you may have received is that “you’re fine” as long as you and your baby are alive. We believe that your experience as a woman and mother is just as important as the life of your baby.

If you feel that your birth needs healing, it does. If your body doesn’t feel right, there is help available. Birth trauma and birth injuries are not a life sentence. Magamama is here to help.

Trauma

With trauma, we are taught that with enough willpower and positive affirmations, we can just “get over it” and “move on.” But if you are like most of my clients, if affirmations and sincere desire were all it took, you’d be enlightened by now. You may have talked it all out in therapy for years, understand the role of your parents, and yet you’re frustrated when you still find yourself in the same repetitive dynamics and situations.

"In this eye opening and vital book, all those who care about women, children, and families will find a treasure trove of information and practices that are vital for the health of society. I highly recommend this book.”
